Bhartiya Bhasha Summer Camp - Day 2
The second day of the Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp, held on June 10, 2025, at DIET Gyalshing, was a vibrant celebration of cultural diversity. The event's theme, "Cultural Fashion Show and Traditional Dance," was hosted by Pratima Lepcha, who ensured a seamless and energetic program. Lecturer Mrs. Seema Devi Tamang warmly welcomed the participants and presented a brief overview of the day's agenda. She emphasized the importance of preserving and showcasing the region's diverse cultural heritage through language, dress, and dance. A colorful fashion show followed, featuring traditional attire from 10 communities: - Lepcha - Bhutia - Nepali - Limboo - Sherpa - Newar - Manger - Rai - Tamang - Gurung Each group proudly displayed their traditional dress, reflecting their unique identity, customs, and way of life. The audience appreciated the authenticity and elegance of the presentation. Lecturer Mrs. Babita Pradhan shared her experience and feedback, expressing admiration for the effort and enthusiasm shown by all participants. She encouraged everyone to continue embracing and promoting their indigenous traditions. Traditional Dance Competition Following a short refreshment break, the traditional dance competition began. Participants from 7 communities performed: - Rai - Newar - Lepcha - Bhutia - Sherpa - Tamang - Gurung Each dance depicted the cultural richness and traditional values of its respective community. The vibrant costumes, rhythmic beats, and expressive movements captivated the audience. A panel of guests and lecturers provided valuable feedback: - Lecturer cum Guest Mr. Dadup Tshering Lepcha - Ma'am Mrs. Dhan Maya Subba -Lecturer Mrs.Dipika Rai - Lecturer Ms. Sadhna Gurung They praised the participants for their hard work, creativity, and cultural spirit, emphasizing the importance of such events in fostering unity and mutual respect among diverse communities. Principal Madam Mrs. Parumita Rai concluded the program with heartfelt gratitude to the organizers, participants, and audience. She acknowledged the day's success in promoting cultural understanding and urged everyone to carry the message of inclusivity beyond the camp.

The Bhartiya Bhasa Summer Camp Cum Cultural Fest 2025 officially commenced on June 9, 2025, under the theme "Language Learning and Cultural Tradition." Hosted by Mr. Sital Limbu, President, the event kicked off at 10:00 AM. Resource persons and Guests, Mr. Dadup Tshering Lepcha and Mrs. Dhan Maya Subba, shared valuable insights into the cultural and linguistic aspects of the camp. Lecturer Mrs. Matrika Thapa delivered a brief yet powerful overview, emphasizing the importance of multilingual classrooms and the need to appreciate India's diverse languages and cultures. She highlighted how the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 encourages multilingualism to foster inclusive and holistic learning. Principal Madam Mrs. Parumita Rai delivered the inaugural address, stressing the deep connection between language and culture. She emphasized the role of such initiatives in preserving Sikkim's rich linguistic heritage. Key Objectives of the Camp 1. Promoting Multilingualism: Encourage students to explore and enjoy learning multiple languages in a fun and engaging way. 2. Cultural Appreciation: Help children develop respect and love for diverse languages early in life. 3. Language Exposure: Introduce students to basic communication in different local languages. 4. Inclusive Participation: Ensure active participation from 75-100 students per school, focusing on self-introduction, vocabulary building, real-life dialogues, cultural elements, and confidence-building activities. Language Learning Sessions 1. Lepcha Language Group The first session featured the Lepcha language, led by eight Lepcha students, beginning with a traditional Lepcha prayer. Key activities included: - Alphabets taught by Ms. Keernet Lepcha - Verbal teaching by Ms. Lakmit Lepcha - Counting numbers taught by Mr. Thendup Lepcha and Mr. Sangdup Lepcha - Daily use phrases taught by Mr. Phurpa Lepcha and Mr. Rebum Lepcha - Short conversations taught by Ms. Marmit Lepcha and Mr. Sangdup Lepcha Mr. Dadup Tshering Lepcha sir shared his reflections on the session, praising the students' teaching methods and confidence. 2. Limboo Language Group The second session highlighted the Limboo language, beginning with a traditional prayer and an introduction to the origin and culture of the Limbo community. Students covered: - Alphabets taught by Ms. Meera Subba and Ms. Srijana Subba - Vowels taught by Mr. Sarun Limbo - Basic numbers taught by Ms. Dewne Subba - Basic conversations taught by Ms. Selimit Lepcha and Ms. Urmila Limboo Mrs. Dhanmaya Limboo maam commended the session and expressed admiration for how well the students had taken charge of teaching their language. 3. Bhutia Language Group The third group introduced the Bhutia language with a session beginning with a prayer. Teaching highlights included: - Alphabets and vowels taught by Ms. Tshering Lhamu Sherpa - Basic numbers taught by Ms. Wangchuk Bhutia - Conversations taught by Ms. Rinkela Bhutia and Ms. Pema Choden Bhutia - Days of the week taught by Ms. Pema Choden Bhutia The session reflected strong student involvement and deep respect for their linguistic roots. The day concluded with a heartfelt speech by Principal madam Mrs . Parumita Rai, emphasizing the significance of linguistic diversity, particularly in Sikkim, where there are over 1,369 mother tongues, yet only 121 officially recognized languages. She urged everyone to promote lesser-known languages to preserve cultural identity and foster unity. She also expressed her appreciation for the enthusiasm and dedication shown by both trainees and teachers in making the first day of the camp a success.

About us
Quality education to which the State Government is strongly committed depends largely on quality of teachers, which in turn depends to a great extent on the quality of teacher education. It is therefore, imperative to have a sound programme of Teacher Education as investment in Teacher Education can yield very rich dividends. National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), an apex body for Teacher Education has been set up by an Act of Parliament to take all such steps for planned and co-ordinated development of qualitative teacher education programme in the country through District Institute of Education and Training (DIET).
The State Sikkim has three District Institutes of Education under Education Department. They are located in Gangtok, Namchi and Gyalshing.
DIET, Gangtok has been granted recognition to run 2- Year Pre-service Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) Course by NCTE, New Delhi in the year 2003. The DIETs -Namchi and Geyzing started to run the Course from the academic session 2010-11.
The D.El.Ed. programme aims to prepare teachers for the elementary stage of education i.e., classes I to VIII. Elementary Education fulfills the basic learning needs of all children in an inclusive school set-up.
The Institutes are equipped with all the physical facilities. Besides, the Institutes have a team of experienced and qualified faculty and officers to look after academic and administrative aspects of teacher education.
